However, there are so many banks and other financial institutions competing for your business that you may be unsure which one to partner with in this exciting venture. One attractive option is to look for a free credit card merchant account offer.

Applying for a merchant account is easy and often can be handled online in a few moments’ time. However, it may be difficult to know which bank to choose. One may offer a lower transaction fee for credit card processing. Another may vie for your business by offering a no-fee installation of credit card processing equipment. But you could benefit more from a free credit card merchant account if the card does not come with hidden fees or limits.

Start by shopping for a merchant account with banks that offer low-interest rate credit cards or a no-rate credit card merchant account. If your favorite bank does not currently offer this type of deal, ask about one. Perhaps they will consi
If you have been doing business for a few years, you probably have heard about the benefits of opening a free credit card merchant account to expand the availability of your products and services. der offering you a special deal if you are a valued customer. Otherwise, when considering a merchant account credit card from a relatively unknown institution, compare the terms of the card to those from other banks to make sure you get the best deal.

Sometimes a “free” credit card deal may actually hide or incur unexpected costs. For example, while you may not have to pay any up front costs when opening the account, like an application fee, you may be billed later for an annual membership fee that entitles you to use the credit card. Failing to pay this fee may result in the cancellation of your credit privileges. A free credit card merchant account should be free in every sense of its use, so ask about contingency fees or possible changes in terms later on as the economy shifts. You don’t want to get comfortable using the card only to find in a few months that you are being billed for services you did not expect to pay for.

A free credit card merchant account can be just the thing to launch you into e-commerce use, however. You can use your credit account to purchase credit card processing equipment or other innovations that will upgrade your company’s image to impress customers and draw in new clients. Or you can use your free credit card merchant account to experiment with other marketing techniques, attend conventions, or try a new line of merchandise or services.

If you have demonstrated skill in using business credit responsibly and in keeping with your business income and expenses, this type of credit card account may be just what you need to move your business forward and expand company interests or operations for your customers’ benefit. Check out all the terms and conditions when you apply to get the best free credit card merchant account.

A few weeks ago (April 18, 2007), Discover Financial Services launched a new business credit card that offers frequent flier miles to small business owners. Among the credit card brands, Discover was one of the last to start offering business credit cards to the small business sector. Reportedly, this is only the latest in a virtual avalanche of business credit cards designed for small business.

One cannot but wonder at the sudden interest.

Perhaps a glance at recent research material will offer some clues. Data shows that in 2006, the small business sector spent $4.9 trillion; but only one-twentieth (5%) of that money was paid through business credit cards in any form (credit or debit card). The credit card companies now want in on that huge market, and believe they can induce small business owners to not only make use of their business credit cards but also to spend more on their cards.

To achieve this, the credit card companies will have to convince the small business owners to use business credit cards in less traditional ways. Traditionally, business credit cards have largely been used to cover travel and entertainment expenses. What card companies want is for businesses to use their business credit cards for everyday spend.

This is the reason behind the new cash back rewards business credit cards. These cards offer 5% discounts on purchases of office supplies, gasoline, courier services and other essential business needs. MasterCard even went as far as launching a business credit card targeted at a specific industry: contractors and construction companies. MasterCard was also the first card company to provide zero-liability protection to small business credit card holders.

Discover’s recently launched business credit cards offer small business the chance to purchase checkbooks. This enables small business owners to pay for purchases from vendors that don’t accept business credit cards. These checkbooks tap into the spending limit on their Discover business credit cards. Visa offers a directly competing program.

American Express sponsors various networking events for small business credit card holders. It also features one of the most extensive business resource databases to help users of its business credit cards to address and resolve their everyday business management problems and concerns.

How big is the potential market for business credit cards, you may ask? If you take the $4.9 trillion small business spending in 2006 and double the current business credit card spend from 5% ($245 billion) to 10%, you have $490 billion. If you charge 15% interest on that, you have a $74 billion potential contribution to profits. In fact, market research companies forecast double-digit growth in small business credit cards between now and 2010, and total charges are projected to reach $740.2 billion by that year. That is a lot of profit.

It has been an uphill climb to get small business owners to subscribe to an expanded use of business credit cards. It takes time, but eventually business owners will respond. One issue that business credit card issuers will have to address is the marked preference of small businesses to pay their full balance for the month as and when it falls due. Card companies do not earn from such transactions. That should be food enough for thought.

I’m not an Economics Major! What do I need to know about Small Business Finance?
No, you don’t need to be an economics major, but you do need to understand the basics of small business finance and good financial management. And if you are an economics major, Great! You have a big head start.
Do you need a bunch of spreadsheets? Not today, but as you plan your business and it begins to grow, you’ll know how to use these! When you’re starting out, there are five basics areas where you need to learn as much as you can:
Bookkeeping:

In very simple terms you need to keep track of the money that comes in and the money that goes out. It may sound a simple, and it might be in the beginning, but you’re not starting this business to run for a month. Hopefully you’re starting this business to last for a long time.
It’s a very good idea to put a smart small business finance accounting system into place from the beginning, and get it set up to grow with your business. You will find a resource page below with some very good basic accounting systems that are affordable and easy to use for small business finance.
Credit and Collections:

You need to make sure you get paid for your product or service. How this happens can vary greatly based on the type of business you run. If you’re just starting out, you will probably not offer your customers credit terms, more likely it will be cash on delivery.
For this you need a payment tool that your customers trust (always look at your customer’s point of view first) and one that will allow you immediate access to your cash. There are many online payment tools and gateways, like PayPal.
One important note, it is an extremely smart idea to use a payment tool or gateway that also offers you the ability to download transaction details into your accounting package. This saves you loads of time manually entering information into your small business finance software package, and has many additional upside advantages.
Cash Flow:

This is where most people have problems with small business finance, and the largest reason for business failures. Let me explain it this way.
Can a profitable business fail? YES, and many do! Cash is KING!
You must have enough cash coming in to pay your expenses. In the beginning this will be from your own pocket or from your small business finance loan or credit facilities. But eventually, and in most cases sooner rather than later, the start-up funding will run out. You need to be focusing on cash flow from Day ZERO, and eventually when the business is running on its own income you can focus more and more on profitability.
Purchasing:

You will need to buy things for your business. In the beginning it’s important to focus on how you pay for these items. If you’re using your credit card, no problem, but watch the finance charges. Try and keep the outstanding balance on your card down to a minimum.
If your making most of your purchases online, then find a good payment tool or gateway that you can use to pay for purchases while at the same time collecting money from your customers.
Financial Analysis:

Don’t worry, this is not a huge issue in the beginning, because if you’re like most new businesses there will be very little to analyze.
But keep in mind; this will become more and more important as your business begins to grow and you have less and less time to dedicate to finance. You will need to again select an accounting package that can grow and expand with your business giving you easy reports to understand.
In the beginning you really just need the ability to watch your finances and do short range forecasts of your cash flow. Most accounting packages have this as a basic part of the package, if not; keep looking for a system that offers this from the beginning.
Get the Small Business Finance Basics right, and the rest will follow with much greater ease. Ignore the basics, or do them wrong, and you’re asking for problems later on that will distract you from your main function as a business owner which is finding and keeping customers!

There are millions of people suffering from bad or damaged credit. As such, these folk have an impossible task obtaining credit cards.
Try to rent something? You might as well go home. Go to your friendly dentist? Without a credit card, your tooth is going to ache for a long, long while. Did your car break down yesterday? Chances are even the friendly tow truck will not get you to safe haven without a valid credit card.
In so many words, a valid credit card is not a luxury anymore. It is a necessity. A secured credit card may be a good solution for any person looking for credit repair, as long as he or she understands their options. Properly used, secured credit cards can actually restore a person’s credit rating and get him/her back on the right track in financial life.
Secured credit cards work closely with the bank. They have the same look and feel as unsecured credit cards with just a few differences. Instead of the creditor offering the banking customer a line of credit, the bank identifies its own credit line with the customer’s checking or savings account. Depending on the credit card being issued, the customer’s bank account will likely be used as collateral. If the customer fails to make a timely payment to the credit card, the minimum amount will be deducted directly from the customer’s bank account.
If the customer has bad credit for any reason, banks and creditors are unwilling to extend credit. This can make it difficult, especially in a society that is completely tied to credit. However, if a customer gets a secured credit card, he or she will be proving himself creditworthy, provided the bills are paid on time. Eventually, the bank or creditors may see the customer has proven himself again and will begin to offer extended credit.
The customer does not have to worry about debt with

these types of credit cards. The only credit line

available is what the customer has put into the special savings account. Keeping it paid will ensure that this credit line is always where it should be, at a comfortable range for the budget.
There are some disadvantages to using secured credit cards. If the customer fails to make timely payments, he or she will have to deal with their high rates of interest and other various late fees. These penalties can continue to rise to where eventually the customer will be broke and will have nothing to fall back upon. This is why it is ultimately important for the customer to keep that bill paid on time, every time.
However, this is still the best option for those who are looking to repair and rebuild their credit. Secured credit cards are the first step to financial freedom and eventually a creditworthy life.

Have you been wondering how you can teach your teen to behave responsibly when using a credit card? No parent wants to see their child get into financial difficulty running up debts that they cannot afford to pay off, yet many of us know from experience how easy it is to succumb to the temptation of thinking that we can afford to buy now and pay later. Of course we learn through bitter experience that this is not always the case and we don’t want our children to make the same mistake.

One way of helping them learn to manage their finances is to give them a prepaid credit card. Technically of course, this is a debit not a credit card as the card is pre-loaded with cash.

There are a number of reasons why you may decide to get your teen a prepaid card. It may be that you simply want them to learn how to manage their own money and by topping up their card on a monthly basis they will hopefully learn how to budget. Your teenager may be going to university and you want to be sure that they have sufficient funds when they need it, for example a quick phone call to you means that you can top up the card in an emergency . Or your teen may be off on a gap year and you can rest easy knowing that funds will reach him quickly if needed.

There are several advantages to a prepaid credit card.

There are no credit tests needed to obtain one, anybody can apply.

It is impossible to run into debt, only the amount credited to the card can be spent.

If the card is stolen only the outstanding cash on it could be lost, although most cards can be blocked in these circumstances.

The disadvantages are minor, normally there is an application fee when getting a card.

Many cards charge a monthly fee, but this is could be cheaper than a teenager running up interest charges on an ordinary card!

Most cards allow withdrawals from an ATM machine, but charge a fee. These charges vary from company to company and it is worth shopping around to find the best buy to suit your circumstances.

There are a lot of cards now being offered and you should read all the terms and conditions carefully to ensure that you are getting what you require. Check there is no delay in being able to use the card as soon as it has been topped up, that you can withdraw from an ATM machine or use online. Well known names offering a Mastercard will probably cover all your needs. Be careful that you are not buying a non-reloadable gift card.

If you choose carefully and explain to your child that the money you will be depositing

on the card is to cover a certain period of time and they must try to budget, hopefully they will begin to learn how to do just that!

Another tool for eliminating bad credit is the use of bad credit credit cards. In the search for a bad credit credit card, the consumer needs to be aware of what’s available in the market so he can repair his credit rating, not make it worse. If one has had financial problems before, one should seek excellent financial advice before trying to borrow more.

Different types of credit such as credit cards allow consumers to easily manage their money. Credit is particularly useful during emergencies and when paying for huge expenses.

However, managing credit is also a big responsibility. When one uses credit the wrong way, it can cause problems like disrupting one’s future cash flow. To prevent this happening, consumers should know and understand the terms of their credit agreement. Once the consumer understands how they work, he can take control of his finances.

Still, even the most careful spenders sometimes rack up a bit too much debt. Frequently, financial problems are due to circumstances beyond one’s control but often may also be due to unrealistic spending habits. This leaves the credit holder financially overextended. A bad credit rating can be caused by a number of reasons including failure to pay household bills, mortgage or rent arrears, loan defaults and bankruptcy.

The best method to use when tackling credit problems is to practice good financial planning habits before problems start.

First, one should organize one’s finances and stick to a budget. Even if cash flow problems crop up, a budget is a good way to help the credit holder get out of debt and maintain good credit later on.

A budget helps consumers organize their spending. It tells one how much income is earned, how much money is spent, and where the money goes. A budget is also useful for telling the consumer where some changes might be needed. Expenses that are not a priority can be identified so those expenses which are necessary can be prioritized.

By using a bad credit credit card, the consumer can make relatively large payments on it, and pay on time – in fact, as soon as he gets his bill. By following this method, the consumer will be able to develop an improved credit history to impress other lenders.

However, even though it is possible to get a credit card despite a bad credit history, there is a price to pay. Lenders offering bad credit credit cards generally charge higher standard interest rates than many lenders since they are usually targeting people who have a record of missing their repayments, so they have to insure themselves against this happening.

Still, if the borrower can prove he can handle financial responsibility by making his monthly repayments on time, he can expect an offer for a better card with a better rate later on.

However, the risk the consumer faces is that if he fails to meet his bad credit credit card’s repayments, his credit rating will turn from bad to worse.

Good credit is essential. Without a good credit rating, you might be denied credit cards, car loans, or mortgages. At the very least, a poor credit rating will mean you pay more for these things. Even when renting an apartment, poor credit might mean you pay a higher deposit. You might also have much higher interest rates, which could cost you thousands of dollars extra on a car, or tens of thousands of dollars extra on a mortgage.

In today’s tough economy, lenders are becoming even harsher while evaluating credit. Basically, they want to know that you have not only the means to pay debt, but the financial responsibility to do so. Many people have a lot of money, but bad credit because they are irresponsible about paying their bills on time! The FICO score is a number from 350 to 850 that lenders look at to determine your risk profile. (The higher the number, the better your credit.) These days, lenders are requiring ever-higher credit scores to get the best interest rates on loans. They can also see your credit report from the three major credit bureaus (Transunion, Experian and Equifax), which will list any delinquent payments, defaulted loans, or other credit problems, as well as who the lender or company was, and when they occurred. Here are some things they’ll look for and what you can do to help your own credit.

Availability of credit.

This is the reason to not max out your credit cards, aside from leaving credit open for an emergency as well. Lenders look at the percentage of credit you are using as compared with the amount of available credit. If you, for example, are only using ten percent of your credit (a $100 balance on a $1,000 limit credit card), it shows restraint. It might also demonstrate that you don’t outspend your means.
What to do: Try to pay your credit card balance off every month, or at least keep a very low balance. Don’t cancel cards you have paid off: it will hurt your debt-to-credit ratio overall.

Timely payments.

If someone is lending you money, don’t you think they want to know you’ll pay it back? Defaulting on a loan will severely hurt your credit score. In addition, late payments, especially a history of late payments, may shy creditors away, or make them consider you a risk. Different companies have different standards to determine when they will report a payment as late, but the rule is about 30 days. Utility companies can be severe, and turn off your gas, water or electric service if you miss more than one payment in a row, or your payment is over 30 days late, or, in some cases, less than that. Credit reports will usually reflect the number of accounts where you have been 30 days late with a payment, 60 days late, and 90 days or more. After 90 days, your creditor might send your account to collections. Not to mention, late payments will almost always incur extra fees!
What to do: Pay everything not just on time, but before it’s due. Don’t wait until the last day possible; you could forget to make a payment, run out of time, run out of money, or have an emergency that keeps you from making it. Try to avoid mailing checks, which can get lost in the mail or arrive late. Instead, make a budget, and pay all bills automatically with your checking account a week before they are due, which will give them more than enough time to process. Most banks have online automatic bill pay systems, often for free with a checking account. This means the bank will send a check to your creditor well before your bill is due. If you don’t have bill pay, you can pay most bills, including cell phones, car insurance, credit cards and some utilities online. Most of these also have automatic withdrawal services. Make sure to keep your check book balanced and write down the withdrawal dates on a calendar so you don’t overdraft your checking account!

Credit inquiries.

Lenders will want to see if you’ve been shopping around for credit, or jumping from one low-interest card to another. The more inquiries, the worse your score. If you’ve just bought a car and opened two credit cards, a company isn’t likely to rush to give you even more credit.
What to do: If you are planning a big purchase using credit, such as a house, don’t open credit cards or apply for lines of credit for 6-12 months before you anticipate applying for your big ticket item. Moving often can also hurt this part of your score, since many landlords require a credit check. While credit card companies will check your credit reports before sending you an offer in the mail, this does not ding your credit score unless you accept the offer. Checking your score and report yourself will also not reflect negatively, however you are only allowed to check your score and report once per year for free, according to regulations passed by the U.S. government.

Length of credit history.

If you’ve never had a credit card or loan, you must have good credit, because you’re starting with a blank slate, right? Wrong. Lenders want to see that you’ve been using credit for a long time. This shows you are used to working with credit, and that you are a loyal customer.
What to do: It’s important not to cancel your oldest credit cards, even if you’ve paid off your debt and have sworn cards off forever. Some people take their credit cards and freeze them in water-filled Ziploc bags so they are safe, yet not easily accessible. You might also put them in a safe deposit box or home safe, so they are ready for an emergency, but not in your wallet where they can be used or stolen. However, with some cards, you might want to charge something small every few months and then pay it off right away, to keep the card active. Additionally, if you’ve never had credit before, or have had negative credit in the past, you might have to start out with a secured credit card or low-limit card in order to prove you can handle the responsibility of credit. Check out the http://primarycardaccount.com for some great ways to use secured cards to build your credit.

Credit variety.

Lenders want to see that you have experience with several types of credit, and are therefore fiscally responsible. These types include unsecured credit, like credit cards, and secured credit, often times installment loans: car payments, mortgages, student loans and other types of financing.
What to do: Without overburdening yourself, try to maintain two types of credit. For married couples, you might want to have one car loan at a time, as well as a major credit card. Or a department store line of credit and a student loan. Most people will have some type of installment loan for most of their lives, be it a car loan, student loan or mortgage. However, even after you pay off your loan, it will reflect positively on your score for at least seven years, provided you make your payments on time and don’t hurt your score in other ways.

Because identity theft is rampant, and easy in today’s technology driven world, and because mistakes can happen, it’s important to check your credit report regularly. You can get one free credit report from each of the three bureaus once a year through annualcreditreport.com. While each may have different items reported, make sure they are all correct. If you have a negative item that is accurate, there’s nothing you can do about it except wait and try not to do anything else that will reflect negatively on your credit report. Items, both positive and negative, will fall off the report in about 7 years. If a negative item is more than 7 years old, you can contact the credit bureau to have it removed.

If you have problems managing your credit, believe you owe too much, or need to reduce your monthly payments because of job loss or low income, you can qualify for credit repair and debt management. In addition, with poor credit or a history of debt management systems, it may be hard to build your credit back up.

Credit is a life long process, and while it requires some work, it is definitely rewarding.

I get asked if we offer a free credit card processing terminal program all the time so I’d like to expose the “real deal” behind these programs should you be considering one:

The old adage “You can’t get something for nothing” was never more applicable than with so- called “free terminal” programs. In this instance, “free” actually means no upfront costs.

What many processors often do is provide a with a terminal at no upfront cost but then charge other fees instead, such as an annual fee, a monthly minimum fee or a termination fee.

In my opinion free credit card terminal providers are doing serious injustice to merchants as they aren’t even matching the merchant with the right solution for their business. For example, many merchants are in need of an online credit card processing solution but instead of being directed to an internet payment gateway or virtual terminal solution they are instead offered the free credit card processing equipment to accept credit cards simply because it is more profitable to the service provider.

Also, you never technically own the equipment. Rather, it’s yours to use only for as long as you maintain your processing relationship with that company. In fact, the terminal is programmed in a manner that prohibits you from taking it to another service provider.

Should you decide to cancel your account; the agreement will usually specify that you return the equipment in the same condition as it was received. Of course, the definition of “same condition” is subjective, and returning equipment in flawless condition after it’s been in continual use is often impossible. The penalty for violation of this provision is usually between $595 and $795, which hardly makes it free!

The bottom line is that the excessive hidden fees and penalties free providers levy make the costs of these programs far higher than meets the eye.

I just don’t see how these types of practices form a foundation for building a lasting partnership as the underlying hidden expense far outweighs the perceived value.

So when it comes to getting “free credit card terminals & equipment” if it looks too good to be true it – It is!
